Welcome Back

We hope you all spent a restful few weeks off over the recent spring break.
Year 4 have spent the last two weeks getting to grips with their new topics.

In English we have been looking at journalistic writing and any opportunity to read news articles of an appropriate content would enhance the children's writing of their own reports- so if something catches their eye in the local paper or a children's newspaper, please encourage them to read, looking for writing style and sensational language use.

In maths, both sets have been revisiting areas of place value and number- Mrs Doran's set have a useful maths website to look at for interactive activities for any areas that they would like to reinforce and consolidate- Snappy Maths.

Harpenden is our topic for the term and children will be bringing home a letter today outlining our Big Bang. We plan to take the children out and about in town, to discover some of Harpenden's historic past, visit the new mayor and spend some time using our newly learnt drawing skills whilst lunching in Rothamstead Park.
Any parents who are available to accompany us on this trip would be most welcome- please see the letter today.

Finally- a plea- many children are coming to school with huge pencil cases, sometimes more than one, full to the brim of exciting stationery products which are a real joy to play with when they should be listening carefully to teaching input or working independently. Please can you check that your children do have a pencil, a pen, a rubber and perhaps a glue stick, clearly labelled as glue sticks do tend to all look alarmingly similar! Perhaps they could leave some of the more exciting stationery at home to use for their homework. Thank you.

Have a good long weekend and we look forward to seeing the children fully refreshed on Tuesday morning.

Easter Break

Good afternoon

You are hopefully all enjoying the weather and a well deserved Easter holiday break after a busy but fun filled term. Since we last Blogged we had the wonderful sights and sounds of Eisteddfod. As always the teachers were wowed by all the exhibits the children displayed. Year four participated well in both the display items and on stage. It was a pleasure to see the children's confidence on stage as they performed to the whole school.

The only homework we have set for the holidays is the next reading comprehension in the children's reading booklets. We thought it would be good for the children to have a complete break and hopefully enjoy some sunshine and family time.

We look forward to seeing you all rested but raring to go on Tuesday 19th April.
